City in Cambodia which is considered the gateway to the ruins of Angkor which include Angkor Wat: largest religious monument ever built and eighth wonder of the world.
General Tips / Notes
- Most (all?) places just accept USD, so don’t need to exchange currency elsewhere
- Grab is the ride sharing app in Cambodia
- Cambodia deals with extreme poverty and has a very sad recent history including a horrible genocide. It is still a very corrupt country. The people don’t necessarily shy away from these horrors but it is good to be aware of these things as you go around

The Corner Zone
- Place which serves Khmer street food
- Had the staple Amok Curry with Fish dish here and it did not disappoint
Khmer Taste Restaurant
- Slightly nicer place which serves Khmer street food
- Had the staple Lok Lak dish here and it did not disappoint
Triple K Angkor Restaurant
- Where many people get taken on tours of Angkor Wat, it’s fine
- A bit overpriced but still cheap if compared to the rest of the world
Green Market
- Cool indoor night market with good food options near Pub Street
Nightlife
Pub Street
- Busy area with bustling nightlife of bars & clubs
Ambar
- Karaoke bar near Pub Street, good time
X-Bar
- Rooftop bar near Pub Street, good for dancing / music / games (beer pong, pool, air hockey, etc.)
Temple Club
- Upscale club near Pub Street
Activities
Angkor Wat Tour
- The main event. This is why you come to Siem Reap
- Go see it at sunrise
- Often includes other temples, mine also included:
- Bayon Temple
- Ta Prohm Temple (Tomb Raider filmed here)
- Banteay Kdei Temple
Phnom Bakheng Temple
- Came for sunset
- Beautiful views but crazy packed
Cycling Tour
- Taken around smaller temples & farming lands (including lotus farms)
